Is It Really September?

Here I go again, lamenting about the fact that summer is pretty much over. It was a fast, but enjoyable one for sure. It was also one full of surprises: I started this blog, AND have stuck to my decision to get fit and healthy. I also met some lovely food bloggers, like Mrs. Adventure, My Little Space, 40 Day Kedge, and All Kinds of Hungry.

But the fall is definitely one of my favorite times of year, with college football and professional hockey back in action, not to mention the plethora of fun holidays. What are some of your favorite things to do in the fall? Do you have any fun fall-like dishes?

Wednesday breakfast included an egg sandwich on Arnold whole-wheat sandwich thins, plus some watermelon and blueberries, and an iced coffee.

Well, some of my Wednesday was kind of eaten up by a haircut appointment. Long story short, what should have taken 90 minutes tops took about three hours. BOO! Oh well, you move on, right? Lunch came a little late because of the delays, but my veggie sandwich was well worth the wait. I had some spinach, cucumbers, tomatoes, and carrots on Arnold whole-wheat bread with roasted garlic hummus from Athenos. Plus, I added one of my homemade pickles!

I did snack on a part-skim mozzarella string cheese later in the day, too.

We consulted SparkPeople's Chef Meg once again, as we prepared her Healthy Chicken Vegetable Casserole for dinner. It seemed like a lovely mix of colorful veggies and protein, so why not, right? We used yellow and orange bell peppers, broccoli, and zucchini with whole-wheat penne from Rotini. For extra kick, Ryan added some cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes to the cheesy sauce. Fabulously filling entree for dinner!

Because it's September and because you still have that feeling of starting fresh, Ryan and I decided that we'd like to do something once a month and make it a habit. I suggested doing brunch or lunch every third Sunday at a new Chicago spot, but he opted for movie night. HAHA! I'll keep ya posted.

I rounded out my Wednesday evening with some Siggi's plain yogurt with honey and strawberries, my new issue of Time Out Chicago, and some Criminal Minds re-runs. How was your day? Thanks for reading.

Does this time of year, with the school year starting, motivate you to start something new?

  1. Thanks for the shout out! I must admit that I ever so slightly geeked out. And yes, there's something about September that brings a sense of "beginning" more so than even New Years. It's probably because I associate September with when I would reinvent myself at school. I don't so much want a reinvention, just more motivation!

  2. Hi there! Just found your blog via foodbuzz - love it! My blog isn't so much focused on healthy living, but I love finding blogs like yours - pictures of fruit and yogurt can seriously be so inspiring!

And - I love Criminal Minds AND Bethenny Frankel too. I am legitimately sick to my stomach over what might happen to Dereck Morgan in the season premiere!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi from another Chicago blogger!

  3. LeashieLoo, well that's because you rock and you have a fantastic blog! I'm glad you the feeling of "beginning" during this time of year. I'm right there with ya on the motivation :)

Meslatt, many thanks for checking out my blog. Glad to meet another Chicago blogger, yay!! Wait, I must be behind on Criminal Minds because I don't know what's about to happen to Dereck. OH NO! My parents actually pushed my hubs and I try to check it out this summer, so we've been catching up on a lot of reruns. Just caught the one where Hotch loses Haley. Totally bawled. I also hear that this is Emily Prentiss' (Paget Brewster) last season??? Love them all!!
